Our Story

About the Rancho Mission Viejo Riding Park at San Juan Capistrano

Nearly three decades ago, a stretch of open ranch land became one of the country’s premier equestrian venues. Today it’s still a working horse show ground — and it’s also your park.

A Rancho Legacy

From open ranchland to a world-class venue

The land beneath the Riding Park carries the name of the historic ranchos that once defined this part of Orange County — vast stretches of open ground long used for cattle, horses, and ranching life. That heritage is still visible in the wide-open feel of the grounds today.

In 1998, the property was developed into a dedicated equestrian facility, quickly becoming one of the premier horse show venues in the United States.

Today, the Riding Park continues to evolve — welcoming new event producers, new investment in the grounds, and new programming — while holding onto what has always made it special: a world-class venue that remains, first and foremost, a public park for the San Juan Capistrano community.
